EMDR Therapy & Parts Work in Visalia

Some pain doesn't fade with time, it gets stored. Trauma can leave you feeling stuck on high alert, flooded by memories that feel as raw as the day they happened, or strangely numb and disconnected from yourself and the people you love.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain finish processing experiences it never got to resolve. Paired with parts work and attachment repair, it gently reaches the younger places inside you that still carry shame, fear, and hurt, so they can finally rest.

This work may be for you if…

  • A past event still intrudes through flashbacks, nightmares, or body memories
  • You feel shame, emptiness, or 'not enough' that you can trace back to childhood
  • You react more strongly than a situation calls for and don't know why
  • You've talked about your trauma for years but it still has the same grip
  • Parts of you feel at war, one wants connection, another keeps everyone out

The process

How EMDR & parts work unfolds

01

Stabilize & resource

Before we touch anything painful, we build safety. You'll learn grounding and self-soothing skills so your nervous system has a place to land. We move at the pace of trust, never faster than you're ready for.

02

Target the memory

Together we identify the experiences and the negative beliefs ('I'm powerless,' 'It was my fault') that still drive your reactions today, and the healthier beliefs you want to hold instead.

03

Reprocess with bilateral stimulation

Using gentle eye movements or tapping, we help the brain reprocess the memory so it loses its emotional charge. The event becomes something that happened, not something that's still happening.

04

Tend to the parts inside

We meet the protective and wounded parts of you with curiosity rather than judgment, repairing the attachment ruptures underneath. Healing isn't getting rid of parts of yourself, it's helping them feel safe enough to soften.

The other side

What healing can look like

Healing isn't about becoming someone new, it's about coming home to who you already are. Here's what clients often notice over time.

  • Memories that no longer hijack your present
  • A nervous system that can rest instead of brace
  • Self-compassion where there used to be shame
  • Feeling whole and at home in yourself again

Common questions

Is EMDR effective for childhood trauma?+

Yes. EMDR is especially powerful for trauma that began early, including attachment wounds and complex trauma. Combined with parts work, it helps reach and repair the younger parts of you that still carry the original pain.

Will I have to talk about every detail of what happened?+

No. EMDR doesn't require you to narrate your trauma in detail or relive it. Much of the reprocessing happens internally, which many clients find far less overwhelming than traditional talk therapy.

How many EMDR sessions will I need?+

It varies. A single recent event may resolve in a handful of sessions, while complex or repeated trauma takes longer. We'll always begin with stabilization and move at a pace that feels safe for you.
